FSCS12 scheduled scan still too slow.

Dear Sirs,

One of our customers uses the following parameters in Policy Manager, to centrally order an FSAV CS 12 scheduled scanning:

Name: Scheduled task
Scheduling: /t10:00 /rweekly /s3
Task Type: Generic
Task Type Specific Parameters:
C:\Progra~2\F-Secure\Anti-V~1\fsav.exe
/HARD /DISINF /REPORT="c:\tmp\schedule.log" /LIST

The question is: are they able to utilize "FSAV 9.51 - Manual Scanning Task Priority - Background Mode"? (Which is a new feature implemented in FSCS 12.00 that was mentioned during the partner webinar held on 2015-09-22.)

By the way, the customer is unhappy. They say FSCS 12.00 still has the same problem as CS version 11.6, that is computers become very slow during scheduled scan. (Plase note: their factory plant works 3 shifts, so it is not possible to run scans during "off-work" hours!)

The average computer in the customer's fleet has these specification:

Intel Core i3 CPU, 3.2 GHz
4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD
Windows7 64bit Ultimate (hungarian language version)
F-Secure Client Security 12.00 (Standard Edition)

[ Note: such specifications can be considered quite modern in a central-eastern european perspective. It is not yet realistic to expect SSD storage in average company computers, most have rotating hard drives. ]

Thanks for your advice in advance, Sincerely:
Tamas Feher, Hungary.

    Hello Tamas,

Yes, but the customer will need to add /POLICY parameter to the command line.

The situation with slowness should become better after switching to background mode.

    Best regards,

    Vad

    Dear Vad,

The customer has sumbitted an FSDIAG. FSC Partner Support looked at it (case ID xxxxx) and confirmed the policy contains "background priority" value for scheduled scan. Yet the customer still isn't happy with the heavy load they see.

Is there anything further that could be done?

Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely: Tamas Feher, 2F 2000 Kft., Hungary.

    EDIT: PII

    Hello Tamas,

I'm afraid, nothing, from the product side.

    Best regards,

    Vad

    Dear Vad,

I'm afraid the customer may abandon ship and possibly ask for a refund. After all, they came to us from a competitor, who had better performance, but lacked in corporate managebility.

I think F-Secure should re-consider if the extremely heavy-weight, five scan engine setup, with Aquarius included, can be continued in a world, where even thr puny ARM-powered smartphones exhibit silk smooth operation. Companies gaining experience with Android and iOS "BYOD" are no longer tolerant of sluggish Windows, be the cause Microsoft or a 3rd party vendor. Soon we reach a point where Windows + AV becomes the burder rather than a remedy!

    Yours Sincerely: Tamas Feher.

    Hello,

What kind of developments can we expect in FSCS 12.10 that will help alleviate the high system load associated with scheduled scanning, as well as real-time protection and updating?

    Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely:

Tamas Feher, 2F 2000 Kft., Hungary.
