hi,

In our PM, a large number of hosts are showing up with their unique ID (56314-4433-11e5-bfb4-97xxxxxxx) instead of their hostname.

Is there an easy way to fix this?

thanks,

Kris

    Hi Kris

How many hosts are affected ?

If the version upgrade installation is using different Host Identification type (such as SMBIOS global unique ID, WINS (NetBIOS) Name etc.) than the original installation, the Host Identification will be different. Hence the host will appear as a new instance in the Policy Manager domain tree.

The solution for this situation would be to remove the obsolete hosts, or wait until they are automatically removed as disconnected hosts. Also, in order to prevent this from happening in the first place it is recommended to use the same Host Identification type as originally.

If you wish to use some specific Host Identification type, you can follow the instructions below to reset the host UID:

The resetuid.exe tool can be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\F-Secure\Client Security\BusinessSuite\

RESETUID SHOWUID Shows the host Unique Identity currently in use.

RESETUID RESETUID {SMBIOSGUID | RANDOMGUID | WINS | MAC} [APPLYNOW] Schedules regeneration of the host Unique Identity using one of specified methods:

    • SMBIOSGUID    - uses SMBIOS GUID
    • RANDOMGUID   - uses randomly generated GUID
    • WINS            - uses WINS (NetBIOS) name
    • MAC             - uses MAC (ethernet card) address
    • APPLYNOW      - If the product is running, requests to apply new Unique Identity immediately                   Otherwise it is applied on the next start of the product.
