AV solution / idea for w2000

since 23.05 we have a problem that i was not expecting, the change in update mode that left many computer clients without new releases

ok, i understand v8 and the others will not be updated anymore BUT i a want at least some help to get those updates from 23.05(2013) to newly installed w2000 systems. in the company i work there are around 70-150 w2000/site and we have around 9 different sites connected. the idea to move to version 9.32 or 10 is not a solution for us as this are the computeres that we need to take care and their owners cant update them

we got used with v5 that keeps a win98 with a very basic protection, and we need at least that thing to w2000

the problem is that the w2000 is not getting ANY update.

question (i repeat myself) : is there any way to get latest version of v8 updates and deploy them on a newly installed system? (manually even with 23.05.2013 )

Hy,

If you are stuck with obsolete Wndows 2000, then your option might be using alterntive antivirus software offered by other vendors. If I recall correctly Avast still offers support for Windows 2000.

if "the is no solution" is the answer from Fsecure than this is far more bad than i ever though

No, there is not.

no offense Dmitriy - you still dont understand my point

the infrastructure is protected pretty decent, most of this w2000 do not have users with internet access, problem is with USB devices that have nasty virus, and also other workstations that have viruses and spread over network - not a common problem but sometimes it happenes.

so again, i just wanna do the copy, if you are unable to answer please dont bother

There is no point to move/copy old updates from one host to another as Windows 2000 with anti-virus software is as (in)secure as Windows 2000 without it. If you can't upgrade to the latest OS version, I'd then consider how to protect those Windows 2000 systems with effective gateway level and email server protection as nowadays web and email are main attack vectors.

no offense guys, but you are missing the point, maybe i should say it again : i am not interested about the microsoft opinion, i am not interested in latest virus updates, and not interested in ANYTHING except how to move some old updates from a host to another host - both online, both connected to same fsecure policy manager.

i just want to take the latest possible updates (may 2013 ) from a host that has it and move it to any new installed win2000 host.

if you repeat the idea of w2000 must be upgraded to win xp/win7 i can email you a paycheck around 350.000 euro to help me buy the hardware to upgrade those w2000 systems

Hi,

Windows 2000 has security problems and known vulnerabilities that Microsoft admitted they couldn't be fully fixed due to the design of the operating system. So, even if your anti-virus is up-to-date, it would be more like a placebo than the real remedy against modern malware.

the solution is not the one you suggested in my case. proprietary software run, several of them running with custom shell that prevents most of the system access - so low virus

i really want at least a way to update with the last know signatures in another system

Hello,

An antivirus scanning with 2013 May updates isn't even worth the CPU cycles expended to run it! With FSAV8 you do not have signatures for modern malware and do not have DeepGuard to protect against newly emerging threats.

If you must stay with Win2000, I think it is better to uninstall AV and rely on an automatic and frequent backup system, making it possible to restore infected computers in minutes.

If there isn't any money to spend, maybe replace Win2000 with Ubuntu Linux (LTS edition).
