Browsing Protection won't appear in Browser

Hi

I'm using F-Secure Client Security 11 build 332 with  Browsing Protection 2.00 build 492 on a Windows 8.1 laptop.

When I installed F-Secure I went ahead to settings\Internet and activated Browsing Protection. But the browsing protection toolbar appears in neither Firefox 24 nor in Internet Explorer 11. And I cannot seem to find the toolbar in the list of deactivated browser plugins....

Currently I'm using Windows 8.1, but the problem was also present before I upgraded from Windows 8.  By the way, my laptop originally came preloaded with Windows 8 AND Norton Antivirus, but I did uninstall Norton before installing F-Secure.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I really miss the 'This website is safe'-icons

Mod: Post moved to the appropriate board.

    As you know from a recent thread, Online Safety is not compatible with Internet Explorer 11, shipped with Windows 8.1; http://community.f-secure.com/t5/Security-for-PC/F-Secure-and-Internet-Explorer/td-p/33587

    Have you tried Online Safety with Chrome or Opera which are apparently compatible with FS on Win 8.1?

    If FS is still incompatible with the latter two browsers, you may have additional problems as supported by the fact that the problem was also seen with your laptop running Windows 8.

    You could initially try the following to see whether any Norton remaining remnants were causing the problems;

    1. Download the Norton removal tool from here; https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080828154508EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

    2. Remove F-Secure normally from Programs and Features.

    3. Run the Norton uninstaller. Reboot.

    4. Install F-Secure again.

    Overall, if you want to stay with IE 11 on Win 8.1, you will either have to keep running F-Secure without the Online Safety feature (until the fix is released) or disable Enhanced protection mode.

    Or if F-Secure Online Safety does not work with Opera/Chrome then you may have to try a clean re-install of FS after ensuring a complete removal of Norton.

    Let the Forum know if you find a solution.

    I tried uninstalling F-Secure, running the Norton removal tool, then reinstalling F-Secure Client Security 11 with Browsing Protection 2.00 build 492 again. Browser protection still doesn't show up in Firefox 24 (nor in Internet Explorer 11, obviously, since F-Secures is not yet compatible with IE 11 under Windows 8.1)

    I also tried installing Google Crome, Version 30.0.1599.101 m, but Browser Protection also didn't appear in the list of applications.

    I wonder if it could be related to the installation file I recieved? I also tried installing F-Secure using the same installation file on an older Windows 7 laptop, and here Browsing Protection toolbar wouldn't show up in Internet Explorer either.

    I guess I'll try working without broser protection toolbar for a while.

    Hi highteq

    sorry to hear that you have not solved your problem yet.

    It was interesting that you found Chrome incompatible with your FS Client Security, as the browsing Protection equivalent in the Home version of FS appears to be compatible with Chrome as reported by descot  here;  http://community.f-secure.com/t5/Security-for-PC/F-Secure-and-Internet-Explorer/td-p/33587

    "I have decided to reenable the Enhanced Protection Mode in IE 11. The add-on from F-Secure still seems to function but it is flagged as incompatible. It seems to work fine with Chrome and Opera."

    So the F-Secure add-on did not appear in the Extensions list of Chrome?

    It would be worth asking Support when a possible fix will be in the pipe-line;

    1. By email;  http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/business_global/support/contact/request

    2. By phone; http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/business_global/support/contact/call-f-secure-support

    You could try any of the following to give you some idea of the reputation of various web-sites;

    1. WOT- Web of Trust- http://www.mywot.com/

    2. Webutationhttp://www.webutation.net/

    3. LinkExtendhttp://www.linkextend.com/

    But for browser protection you could try Bitdefender's TrafficLight;  http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/trafficlight.html

    Just a thought, but to go back to basics, have you checked in Online Safety settings that Browsing Protection is actually enabled in the product?  Also, again in OS Settings, if you haven't already tried this, it might be worth going into Browser Extensions and reinstalling the extensions.  BP may then at least work in the compatible browsers,

    Hello all,

    Starting from F-Secure Client Security 10.00 BP is not a browser plugin.

    To check if BP works for your browser or not you can:

    1. Check if the ratings for websites are showh by BP. Go to bing.com and try to search for "cracks" for example. You will see green, yellow and red raitings. I've checked this in Windows 8.1 with Firefox/IE. It works fine.

    2. Try to access "unsafe.fstestdomain.com". You should see BP window.

    If any of this two simple tests fails for you, please, contact support. We'll need to investigate your problems deeper.

    Best regards,

    Vad

    Hi Vad

    So browser protection is no longer a toolbar? Does that mean that the only sites that are suspicious or harmful will cause the F-Secure browser to show up?

    I visted "unsafe.fstestdomain.com", and the "Harmful website blocked" sign did appear in both Firefox and in IE11. When I deactivated browser protection in F-Secure settings the sign no longer appeared.

    However, the F-Secure search ratings in bing.com show up regardless of whether browser protection was activated or not. And there are no search ratings when using Google in neither FF nor IE.
