Urgent! F-Secure protected computers in Hungary are running very slow today morning.

Dear F-Secure,

We have numerous problem reports this morning, coming in from various locations in Hungary. The users are complaining about their F-Secure protected computers (including FSAV WKS 11 corporate and FSAV 2014 home user installations), which are running very slowly, slow enough to make productive office work impossible. On some computers the F-Secure "blue triangle" tray icon turns into a red X to signal malfunction.

Some of these computers have Windows Update automatics turned OFF, so we do not think this issue is related to the "Microsoft Patch Tuesday" hotfixes released during the night.

Please advise us of the cause and remedy of these malfunctions!

Thanks in advance, Sincerely:
Tamas Feher, 2F 2000, Hungary.

    Dear Vad,

It looks like the problem was caused by Windows Update driving svchost.exe to 100% CPU use on WInXP. It is not enough to turn off WU from the Windows Control Panel GUI, but the Automatic Updates and BITS services have to be stopped and disabled to return svchost.exe to idle.

    Best Regards: Tamas Feher, Hungary.
