Heavy cpu load for fssm32.exe

Hi,

 

I'm experiencing a very heady cpu load for fssm32.exe op one server every now and then. It uses a minimum of 74% cpu and at times gobbles up all cpu time. I'm running Server Security 10 on a w2k8 R2 x64 server.

 

Is there any way that i can see what is being scanned real-time? That might point me to some things i may want to exclude from scanning.

    Hello,

     

    It is possibble to add a registry key to F-Secure, which will make it log all on-access (real-time) scan objects and times in great detail.

     

    The price is about 10% penalty in performance and a very quickly growing "oas_log.txt" file, possibly of several gigabytes in size. Because of this, registry-based logging should not be forgotten in the enabled setting for long times or the server will run out of HDD space sooner or later!

    I'm having same problem (fssm32.exe process high cpu load) over years now (no newer version hasn't fixed it yet), but mostly in windows workstation platform not servers. It makes users very angry when computer comes unresponsive and very slow because of that process taking all cpu resources. I've seen this on many different workstations (xp, vista and 7) and killing this process doesn't reset its behaviour, it just starts again and does the same load.

     

    I haven't found any solution to this. Hope you'll do the math with debugging and tell us the results and findings. If something comes up, I'll be happy to help on digging.

    The reason can be totally different in these cases, and we would need to further investigate the problem in order to fix it.

    Yes, it could be true. And thanks for the hint about support tool. I'll do that when I'm facing this situation again and am able to run this diagnostic support tool.

     

    I think this problem doesn't show up so intensively for end users with newer computers (RAM more than 2GB and processor cores 2 or more is better). I've had this issue mostly with older computers, but the situation is not like this process is having all the available memory which makes system slow, but rather it's eating processor resourses 50 and more % and then it freezez th whole system episodically.

     

    As you can see when searching from google, this same issue has been an old issue since years already and not so much lately but still. Not finding any good solution I've been replacing f-secure with native windows anti-virus programs (Defender/MSSEssentials) and these are running smoothly, only they are lacking central management console and of course I guess f-secure is just much more for professionals.

     

    So, my talk is not so technical at this time and it's more like emotional, but I promise I'll bee more specific when this issue occures again for me.
