f-secure 4.64 command line client on redhat 4

hello all. I'm very new to the whole f-secure world...after getting the email stating our virus definitions were out of date by 8 days, I looked into manually updating our database.

This is where things get a little fuzzy, as I haven't found much documentation for this version/situation. I'm logging in via SSH, so any gui type option is a no go.

I'm downloaded the latest .zip file / fsdbupdate9.run ...

I'm assuming I can just run the .run file, but I get permission denied. Is this as easy as chmod +x and re-run it? Is this not the proper way to manually update the command line client?

Is there a place I can refer to, that will assist in the command line world for f-secure 4.64?

Hi,

fsav --version shows the database as being updated, however, I am still getting emails stating they are out of date by X days.....what sends this email? Is there a way to reset this, or stop the email for now? We have a cron job set up that is doing all updates, so about this email?

IIRC, the product itself did not include similar functionality or even a script for this particular purpose. Maybe you're using the product with a 3rd party solution which implements the functionality?

Check /etc/crontab and root crontab (crontab -u root -e) and unless these provide a solution, try searching files containing the sub strings "fsav" + "--version". Hopefully this can identify the emailer script....

Indeed the product here F-Secure Anti-Virus for Linux 4.64 is no longer supported. The product replacing this is Linux Security and this is available at http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/business_global/support/downloads/-/carousel/view/83

Note, Linux Security can be installed with only manual scanning capabilities to mimic the functionality of the current product 4.64. For this purpose, use the installer with the following parameter:

./f-secure-linux-security-<version>.<build> --command-line-only

If you're interested in the product, kindly contact your local F-Secure partner.

to me it looks you run an very old version which is not even supported anymore please see here.

I would recommend you to update to latest version of command line scanner. If your company has a valid license you should have the key for it.

You can download it from here there is an option for command line only installation just read the release notes.
