Backing up the F-secure for Exchange configuration before re-installation

Hi,

As per subject line, I would like to back up the configuration.  What is the best way to do this?  Is it ok to stop the services and then copy the c:\program files\F-Secure to a new location and then start the services or there a better way?

Thnaks for reading and any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,

Dan

  • Hm,

if the product is managed by a PMS and the settings have been done in an own group (notthe Host-leave) then you are very fine, just reinstall.

The Configuration is basically stored in the file policy.ipf, but you need to collect that file in save mode or restart the system and save the file policy.ipf.bak right after reboot. But I have never used that file to restore settings (I prefer the PMS way) so I am mnot sure if that way works. But you will also restore a lot of other statistics, which you would not like.

Maybe you better use "c:\<F-Secure>\common\polutil dump mySettings.txt" to have a second source and a readable version. Then make al future changes to a subdomain in the PMS.

  • Hi,

missed that one, but usually I work with managed setup.

But isn't there much more but only the settings to restore the previous installation?

    What about e.g. spamfilters, quarantine?

Why don't you just install on top? that should do the job...

  • I thought what I just did was wrong. Thanks to you guys, I know now that I am in good hands. Will just reinstall it right away.

  • Great, thanks for the replies.

In the past we have had problems using PM to manage F-secure for Exchange but will make sure a prioritynow to stop any issues in the future.

Unfortunately at the time the software was causing too many issues so regretably with had to un-install to resolve the issue.  It has now resolved the issue so will look at installing again.

    Many thanks.
