Elements Agent for Windows and Server Changelog
This thread collects endpoint client change logs for WithSecure Elements Agents for Windows and Server - previously known as:
- Computer Protection
- Computer Protection Premium
- Computer Protection & Rapid Detection and Response
- Computer Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response
- Server Protection
- Server Protection Premium
- Server Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response
All these products are available from the shared installer and the capabilities have been added gradually.
September 2017 started availability of Computer Protection clients.
May 2019 started availability of Server Protection clients.
We're very proud of the full revamp of architecture and the benefits this brings to our users, but we're by no means done. A major part of revamp of the architecture is our ability to update all levels of the product to respond to the fast-changing threat landscape.
In this thread, we will announce new WithSecure Elements Agents for Windows and Server releases and you can expect to see new ones frequently. WithSecure Elements Agents for Windows and Server are updated to the latest version automatically even though not immediately - new installations may see newer version for a period of time than what you have installed.

Computer Protection 17.2 introduces:
- Tray icon right-click menu functionality improved, changed style - it should let program start a little faster now
- About box now shows the same information regardless of where it is opened, changed style - we also now started a running <year>.<release> number that helps you see from now on what version you have in use.
- client installer can run silently in basic scenario when configured with the keycode "INSTALLER_<keycode>_.exe --silent". This shows dialogs in case keycode check fails, or sidegrade is needed or anything else fails during installation.
- User interface rendering framework has been changed and enables scaling of our dialogs to all sizes
There is also a number of fixes and minor improvements in particular in the area of browsing and connection control. It also includes a change that we believe to fix majority of Software Updater related bluescreen problems from compatibility with Microsoft's own update and reboot mechanisms.
PS: Please note that we changed the release numbering from this version onwards. You will see our launch version and this version with the same main release number, and for knowing you have this one see version of Common Component Framework: 3.01.280

- In case the web browser extension is not installed or enabled, the warning text on Main GUI acts as a link to open the help page with more info
- On the Settings/Browser extensions page, there is a button opening the web browser on the Chrome Web Store page for installing the browser extension for Chrome
- On Windows 10 Creator's Update ("Redstone 3"), Windows Defender Security Center (WDSC) will display status information, and the product's Main GUI can be opened from a link in WDSC
- Fixes worth mentioning:
- Blockpage's allow button does not cause allowed page to load if url is plain http

Computer Protection 17.4 introduces:
- Browsing Protection blockpage now shows Computer Protection Icon
- Client version is now reported correctly to the backend
- For use at discretion, installation command line offers --skip-sidegrade to install without removing a particular product considered incompatible. We suggest using this only in cases where products have been compatible with Workstation 12 product and are not for Computer Protection. Leaving a product that is incompatible is at own risk, and we for problems we primarily advice removing the incompatible product.
- Includes everything Computer Protection has.
- DataGuard Blocking Flyer now gives information to user in cases of blocking applications considered unsafe.

As our team is working towards delivering more frequently the value into use in the PSB service as we have it available and well tested, announcing releases is losing some of it's meaning for us. We are however very happy to announce the availability of Computer Protection and Computer Protection Premium 18.2 release.
The 18.2 release brings out a fix on a cycle of crashes we could see from our product monitoring happening on a portion of Win7 computers. The new version is automatically updated silenty, as always.

We've started delivering the Computer Protection and Computer Protection Premium 18.3 release. The release contains work towards next upcoming major features (application control, streamlined installation) that isn't yet visible for the users.
Main user-visible change is fixes in the Software Updater area. A portion of our customers was experiencing Software Updater component crashes, which this version fixes. We've still seen some while diligently testing the version, but tracked it down on the old version failing when new one gets installed.

Computer Protection and Computer Protection Premium 18.4 release is available. This release brings some ransomware protection and browsing protection bug fixes and some UI changes.
- Firewall settings page changed: the "Advanced network protection" checkbox has been changed to a switch.
0 -
We're currently finalizing 18.5 release of F-Secure Computer Protection and Computer Protection Premium end-point clients. As usual, the clients will automatically update themselves into the latest version after the availability date.
Product notifications migrated to use new toast / flyer
Product notifications are now using a new toast / flyer mechanism.
On Windows 10, the notifications will first appear on screen, and will then be accessible from Action Center as well as Event History. On Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, the notifications will look similar to Windows 10 notifications without Action Center integration.
In some cases, the way how the events are generated has changed. When a manual or scheduled scan is started, an event will be stored, recording the beginning of this operation, e.g. "Manual virus scan was started". When the operation ends, the original event will be updated with the result of the operation, e.g. "Manual virus scan did not find any harmful items".
Connection Control: use referer information when returning to web shop after transaction
This is an improvement to the Banking Protection use case where the used web shop is missing the safety rating. When payment is made from this kind of site, usually a net bank/payment service site is opened which triggers banking protection session. When payment is done, browser tries to return to original web shop to finish the transaction, i.e. tell that the payment was done and shipping the order can proceed. However, if the site has no safety rating and banking protection session is still on, the site will be blocked. This improvement uses browser's referer information to allow returning to unrated web shop if there exists a bank if the chain of referers. So this will fix some of the cases where user could not complete shopping payment.
Profile visibility in client UI
We have added the profile assignment to be visible on the client UI. Under Common Settings | Updates the detailed list of updates includes information on the profile the client has last taken into use. Similar information was previously available in logs and we raised the visibility of this information due to popular request.
GDPR-related improvements
We have double-checked our client GDPR compatibility, and this shows as changes in the installation flow. We clarified the questions on use of your data, and made opt-out a default.
Fix: DataGuard extra labels on GUI
The user interface changes with the previous release introduced a view on the DeepGuard tab in settings where users would see an extra DataGuard label. This is now shown only to Premium users with matching settings.
About the future
You may have noticed there was an unusually long time between this release and the previous. We have been preparing in the background a major re-design of our installation to make it faster, not requiring a network connection and be remotely installable for PSB use cases. We've made great progress on it with the focus and are looking forward to introducing that to you within the upcoming months.

Dear Maaret,
> Release 18.14 - availability starting 27.9.2018 ... This release introduces:
> - OEM Functionality that enables installing on cloned machines
> - Changes to prepare for channel upgrades from CP18.5 and WKS12 clients
> - Fix for a problem with Google Ads being blocked by Browser ProtectionI was told CP version 18.14 will also introduce official support for the creation of "monolithic" or off-line usable install packages, but the Downloads page in PSB EMEA webportal still only has the small sized "webstub" format installer.
Please tell us how to access the official off-line install kit, without resorting to that ugly hack described in the knowledge base.
Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely. Tamas Feher, Hungary.

The full MSI is coming out with release 18.15, and we are currently in the process of updating our documentation to include the MSI links in the portal and the tool we have making deployment more straightforward.
I've seen my colleague suggesting in another thread here that we can give an early version for trying it out if that helps you move forward. Would you rather still have the links to tools? I can pass those in an email.

Dear F-Secure,
A hungarian educational customer reports that F-Secure endpoint protection (at least the PSB CP 18.x versions) have a problem on computers with Virtualbox installed. That hypervisor software creates a virtual network card, which allegedly has the exact same MAC address on every computer.
F-Secure PSB CP 18 apparently prioritizes that "virtual" MAC address for its identifier, instead of the physical network card. Because of that choice non-unique identifier related problems may emerge, e.g. "rotation of endpoints" in the PSB admin webportal view.
Sysadmin must manually configure the generation and use of "random computer identifiers" for F-Secure endpoints to work around that problem. Please investigate this report and if necessary, implement the corresponding fixes! (E.g. the known wrong MAC addresses belonging to various hyper-virtualization software could be black-listed for unique ID use by factory defult or something like that.)Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely: Tamas Feher, Hungary.

Hi Tamas,
with the new generation of clients, we are not using the MAC address in communication as was the case in the WKS12 generation. However, if your customers are installing on the image and then creating distribution copies, you could check our instructions on how to install on a clone image.
We'd be happy to look into your customer's problem in more detail if this does not help solve it.

A new version of the endpoint clients is made available. The release of clients makes available these products to install with an appropriate subscription key:
- Computer Protection 19.2 (4.02.1067)
- Computer Protection Premium 19.2 (4.02.1067)
- Computer Protection & Rapid Detection and Response 19.2 (4.02.1067)
- Computer Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response 19.2 (4.02.1067)
The clients get automatically upgraded, generally without a reboot.
NOTE: For this release you will see a need of reboot in a special case. If at time of installing there is an application running that uses .NET that we are upgrading to version 4.7.2, a reboot is needed. This reboot is not asked visibly, but only through the downloads list with the PSB module status "Reboot needed". The version 19.1 will continue to be fully operational while the reboot is pending.
Also, a fraction percentage of our installed base will see PSB module status "Will try again". This means that something blocked us from upgrading .NET to version 4.7.2, usually the reason being that the computer is running an older version of e.g. Windows 10 where Microsoft is not supporting this version. In this case, check that .NET 4.7.2 is supported on the Windows version the computer is running and if the status remains, please reach out to us. Also in this case, the version 19.1 will continue to be fully operational.
This release introduces:
- New user interface using .NET - first changed is the About box.
- PSB managed remote F-Secure diagnostics. Admins can now request a diagnostic tool run from the portal to initiate asking permission for it on the endpoint. With permission, the file is made directly available for F-Secure with an identifier the admins can use in their support contacts.
- First-level properties for WMI. To support RMM tool integration, we added WMI properties and simplified the interface for more straighforward integration. We now support RMM with Kasaya and will add documentation on it to make it more widely accessible.
- Fixes. Many enhancements on installation scenarios, software updater, browsing protection and remotely managed firewall. Crashes in components that happen silently.
- Improvements. List of IP addresses for autoswitch rules so that you can define single rule for multiple addresses. WINS support for autoswitch rules.
- Separate sidegrade package to run in MSI remote installations.
Should you notice anything worth a mention or question, we always welcome your feedback.

A new version of the endpoint clients is made available. The release of clients makes available these products to install with an appropriate subscription key:
- Computer Protection 19.3 (4.03.1460)
- Computer Protection Premium 19.3 (4.03.1460)
- Computer Protection & Rapid Detection and Response 19.3 (4.03.1460)
- Computer Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response 19.3 (4.03.1460)
- Server Protection 19.3 (4.03.1460)
- Server Protection Premium (4.03.1460)
- Server Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response (4.03.1460)
The clients get automatically upgraded, generally without a reboot.
This release introduces:
- Allowing installing on operating systems without .NET 4.7.2 and shows a dialog instead of .NET user interfaces if updating .NET is required. While lack of .NET stops us from showing user interfaces, the remotely managed clients are keeping users secure.
- Pressing Check Now for updates bypasses throttling. If you want to get the latest client installed before it is scheduled for your particular endpoint, you can get that by using Check Now.
- Improved Restart functionality. It now allows to postpone restart and has a count down to the restart time.
- Remote Quarantine support. Admin can add items on exclusions when releasing them from quarantine in portal. Availability of this functionality depends on the PSB Portal and backend release.
- Improved Install software updates remote operation: it waits until completed without timeout, it does not block other remote actions but has its own queue, and it reports status with more granularity.
- Importable xml-config for WMI with remote actions for Kaseya RMM
- Showing exclusions in scanning report
- Many fixes to match customer reported issues, including ones fixes for previous versions as hotfixes
- Support for Server Products.
- New hidden dialogs for piloting purposes. Should you want to participate in early access of new settings and new software updater client user interfaces, please get in touch. These will be revealed in full on later releases.
Should you notice anything worth a mention or question, we always welcome your feedback.
Please note: while the Server Protection products are installable from the same installer, we added their availability from this release starting on May 16th.

Hello,
Currently, I still see some 1180 computers with "FSAV PSB WKS 12.01" software on them, amongst a total of 5510 devices visible under the hierarchy of our PSB "SoP" level portal.
Will this new "PSB CP version 19.3" release make sure those left-over WKS 12 computers are also converted to the new, lightweight "Computer Protection" anti-virus technology?
Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely. Tamas Feher, Hungary.
0 -
Hi Tamas,
we are monitoring the WKS12 numbers and there are many different actions related to those. As per our current setup, WKS12 upgrades will all end up in 19.1 to manage the configurations we need to support and monitor, and we are taking action to let those upgrade from 19.1 to 19.3 later. So this release isn't an action directed towards WKS12 upgrades.

A new version of the endpoint clients is made available. The release of clients makes available these products to install with an appropriate subscription key:
- Computer Protection 19.4 (4.04.824)
- Computer Protection Premium 19.4 (4.04.824)
- Computer Protection & Rapid Detection and Response 19.4 (4.04.824)
- Computer Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response 19.4 (4.04.824)
- Server Protection 19.4 (4.04.824)
- Server Protection Premium 19.4 (4.04.824)
- Server Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response 19.4 (4.04.824)
The endpoints get automatically upgraded, generally without a reboot.
This release introduces:
- Concept of Early Access. As per popular demand, we have introduced a change to the way we release endpoint clients. Administrators can set in Portal General Settings | Early Access to Client Software -toggle on, identifying the computers that will receive our product update in advance of the full release. This allows Early access computers receive F-Secure software updates several days before everyone else. We are finalizing the details of how many days we set the limit to, with limitation of allowing max one week delaying. For 19.4 release, availability tomorrow starts only for computers marked for the early access group, and for others the availability starting point moves to next week.
- Start of Support for full range of servers (Citrix, Terminal Server). With this release, we start support for Citrix (excluding the imaging scenarios that require recognizing new license uses as same) and Terminal Server. Also note that SWUP on servers no longer times a restart, but we allow servers their usual restart schedule. Enhancing settings on this is scheduled for next release.
- Redesigned Endpoint Settings User Interface. We have combined our settings user interfaces under one umbrella and worked to address concerns around finding the settings on the endpoint cients that Administrators set on Portal. For example, the two DataGuard(tm) settings are now grouped together.
- Software Updater User Interface. Primarily for convenience for administrators, we have introduced a Software Updater user interface on the endpoint clients. You can find this from Tools view on the endpoint client Main User Interface.
- Fixes and Improvements. Improving Software Updater Exclusions, Software Updater Restart, Installation and functionality in Proxied environments, and Events and Event History (with Show All -function).
Should you notice anything worth a mention or question, we always welcome your feedback.

A new version of the endpoint clients is made available. As per the new Early access process, it is available first week for clients with "Early access to client software" setting set on in Portal and full availability starts in one week.
The release of clients makes available these products to install with an appropriate subscription key:
- Computer Protection 19.5 (4.05.1065)
- Computer Protection Premium 19.5 (4.05.1065)
- Computer Protection & Rapid Detection and Response 19.5 (4.04.1065)
- Computer Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response 19.5 (4.05.1065)
- Server Protection 19.5 (4.05.1065)
- Server Protection Premium 19.5 (4.05.1065)
- Server Protection Premium & Rapid Detection and Response 19.5 (4.05.1065)
The endpoints get automatically upgraded, generally without a reboot.
This release introduces:
- Custom Restart Postpone for Software Updates. Software Updater reboots introduce more configurability and longer times until a reboot must happen.
- Combined Software Update Reboots. We have added logic for not requiring a reboot for every update separately if combining them is possible.
- Default Block Illegal Sites. We turned on the browsing protection setting to Block Illegal sites by default after analysing its contents in more detail to reflect our recommendation. The category includes child pornography.
- Fixes and Improvements. We have fixes a number of issues, particularly around proxied environments.
Should you notice anything worth a mention or question, we always welcome your feedback.
